Vernazza, Cinque Terre, as it was till 25/10/2011. - My tribute -
On 25/10/2011, after an extraordinary rain storm, a terrible flooding destroyed almost completely two boroughs of the Cinque Terre: Monterosso and Vernazza. Both are Unesco World Heritage.
The flooding caused many casualities and covered the peaceful, little square you can see in this picture and all the roads of the village with a layer of compacted mud high more than 2.5 meters.
The damages to the houses are till now unknown, since the mud reaches the start of the second floor, been obviously very heavy.
All the cars in Vernazza were carried down by the water into the see, all the boats were lost.
I uploaded this old shot to remember all the guys visiting my shots how fine Vernazza was and as my tribute, even if inadequate, to the people who lost their lives and to the many volunteers who are working in a very difficult situation giving their help.
Many thanks to everyone passing by my shots. Comments are appreciated. You are welcome. Sergio
