    Merryjack You are exactly right about the grill hanging on the post, we use one ourselves here in Portugal when we barbecue our fish, they are brilliant, keeps the fish in place and cooks it just right. What a brilliant photo this is, we don't know how lucky we are!!

    I think it is dated about the turn of the 19-20th century... I have some family photos of about then with similar poses and clothing. The "Bushies" did not tend to have either time or money to worry about the fasshions of the day.
    The quality of this image is far better then the average of those times, which would lead me to think this was taken by one of the "professional" travelling photographers of the time.
