Hi there Andy, first thing I would like to say about this shot is how much I like the lighting, I like the way that only one side of her face is lit, did you use lights or is that natural light.
Also you have positioned the person well so you can just see a bit of the background good composition.
Another thing I like about this shot is the way the woman’s hair is blowing it adds to the shot all I’m left to say is nice shot again.

Tam/Annmarie Ritchie/Kenna Thank you for those kind words. The lighting is a mix of ambient and strobe lighting. There is a studio strobe in a large-ish octagonal soft box fairly close to the model and above her to the left. The exposure is set so that the ambient light is considerably underexposed and so most of the illumination is the strobe.

Excellent portrait of your lovely lady, love the composition. A nice touch the movement of the hair in the wind.

hello Andy first time commenting your photo...
First of all this is a really strong tight composition here! really works great for me! Then the light is very even and nice. Nothing really blown out witch is of course great!
Then perfect control of focus and dof! They are just spot on!
Overall a great shot of a friendly and kind person! Well done!

Yet again an Andy Classic...... It is a beautiful shot.. Lighting is impeccable and I guess I should stop talking about the lighting cuz you are like the master of it......

I love how the subjects hair is being flown and the light reflecting of her face and eyes adds a sparkle to the picture.....

I love the way the sharpness of the subject blends in with the blur of the DOF here....

All in all.... Just too lovely.....

This is beautiful, Andy. It feels like you've captured her very naturally, with great eye contact. She looks comfortable with the camera here. I love the colors, lighting, and the fairly close up framing is really nice. The dof is great, with a very pleasing blur in the background.

My only suggestion is that I might like a tad more room at the top. The top of her head is just ever so slightly clipped, and I feel just a bit of blue there would make it pop even more. That's such a tiny factor -- the photo is as close to perfect as one can get!

      Cheers!

Hi Andy. Thank you again for sharing the information on the lighting. Again, this is very beautifully lit. I'm glad I can learn so much from you. I love the simplicity of this. The focus is spot on, I love that you can make out a bit of the background. The vertical line the island (or whatever it is that is set apart from the blue sea) makes, really adds to the composition. The skin tone is very natural and the hair is perfect. Really black hair is so difficult to photograph- Without blowing out any other part of the image, you managed to expose the hair perfectly and you got an incredible amount of detail.

The image has an unreal "out of this world" feel to this. I get it with a lot of your images. It's great because you have a very recognizable style and you seem to be a technical perfectionist.

Couldn't help but notice, how beautiful, but at the same time, her left eye has a slight squint and the right one doesn't, as if she is caught between emotion change... the subtle differences in split seconds of time, makes all the difference in photography, often it is what the photographer doesn't see, but the camera does capture... that is the most exciting. However, she is truly lovely. Also in this photo in addition to her charming face, you also see the strength underneath, far from a typical woman, you must find her wonderfully complex.
