Cast Collection Closed
The Danish National Gallery has - inexplicably and inexcusably - decided to close its unique cast collection to the public. Economic reasons are cited.

The cast collection was made possible with donations from brewer Carl Jacobsen (also creator of the New Carlsberg Glyptotek). In addition to being a tribute, created with much cost and labor, to the European sculpturing tradition, it is also a fun museum, offering unexpected juxtapositions of the most eye-opening kind. This is a result of the rather cramped premises in an old warehouse on the Copenhagen waterfront. But the crampedness is an added quality in my opinion. Hey! This is casts, not precious originals. Let's have fun!

Alas, no more! A sad loss...
