2015-12-27 California
Photos taken December 2015 during the trip Joan and I took to celebrate our fortieth wedding anniversary. We flew into LAX, spent five days driving up the coast on Highway 1, and flew out of Oakland on New Years Day. Along the way we visited one Hearst Castle, two Getty museums, three old Franciscan missions and stayed in three hotels, visited four (I think) beautiful California state parks, ate at least five really good meals including the best torta (at Medusa's in Cambria) and the best burrito (halibut and shrimp, at Los Agaves in Santa Barbara) I've ever had, saw sea otters, gray whales, elephant seals and also garden-variety sea lions, spotted a porpoise or two, observed a very cooperative red-tail hawk from up close, saw a beautiful waterfall, hit the towns of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Santa Cruz and Monterrey pretty hard, drove through Cannery Row (but did not eat any sardines), got stuck in one gawd-awful traffic jam on dangerous roads after dark, visited a whaling museum, met Betty (of Betty Burger), didn't connect with Clint Eastwood in Carmel for some reason, took more selfies in six days than I've taken in the last year, and generally had a good time with my beautiful wife.
