Its all fun and games until someone gets hurt

and that is exactly what happened..Sage (the paint) was minding his own businees eating and Cooper (the buckskin) came up and started kicking the crap out of him. Kept backing up kicking, Sage kicked back after a few assaults but then Cooper got him good...Cooper has back shoes on which spells disaster in the pasture. Well I immediately noticed Sage was limping and then a ton of blood. Called for help and we managed to get him out of pasture and get a compression bandage on him.
He had severed an artery and so much blood, took me 2 rolls of vet wrap gauze, a wash cloth and a roll of cotton to get the bleeding to stop. Then we waited for the vet. The vet had to suture the artery and then found a piece of bone. So Sage is at the equine hospital now and scheduled for surgery Monday morning. Broken splint bone. They will remove it and clean everything up and he will be fine. Turns out horses don't need splint bones. They can also loose a gallon of blood before they go into shock. It is a good thing it was the weekend and we were there to see it happen, otherwise he may not have made it.
Please pray that Sage has a successful surgery on Monday and we hope everyone has a uneventful weekend.
