A tailor jorneywoman

    Newer Older

This young tailor is doing her journeyman years, three years away from home. The tradition is very old (you might say historic). You can find more information about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journeyman_years

She agreed rather quickly on getting her portrait taken, on the condition I send a print to her parents. The location was pure luck, I found her leaning against the model of a historic steam train. She almost blends in with the background.

The light was rather dim in this underground train station and shooting ISO 100 film forced me to open the lens to f/2 with a slow shutter speed which luckily turned out OK after applying some sharpening in digital post processing.

How wonderful that this tradition still exists! I guess when she is done with her 'Gesellen Jahre' she'll join a 'Zunft' (if a 'Zunft' for her trade still exists).
