Carbon Capture and Storage

Addressing carbon emissions that contribute to climate change has become an international challenge. At Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, part of the focus of carbon storage research is on basalts, including this variety from Hawaii. Researchers are determining whether it is feasible to safely and permanently store carbon dioxide in massive, deep underground basalt formations.
