Such a simple and effective build for the rear landing gear. I've tried a few variations and combinations of technic parts and nothing had the simplicity and the compactness I was looking for. I'll be posting pics of the X Wing I just built, with the current landing gear, and if you don't mind, I'll try yours out as well.

This build is elegant in design and wicked in appearance!

update, if you want the partslist shoot me an email, pmiaki@yahoo.com. I would post it to the internet but brickshelf doesn't like things that are not pictures.

Thanks for this series of pics, I'm gonna give it a shot. I thin it'll look beautiful sitting next to the falcon. Now if only they were in some sort of hanger together...

Awesome build! I followed your directions from brickshelf and it turned out great! [though I think you may be missing a 1x1 plate next to the front landing gear? I didn't see it in the instructions and had a gap, so I just filled it in. ;)]

I'm borrowing your rear landing gear design for all of my X Wings, credit and a link will be given when I post pictures, as well as a picture of what your design replaced.

Wow! That's pretty awesome. I'll be using this in an upcoming blog post at my blog, www.jmlalonde.com

I'm not sure when but I know it's sparked an idea. Thanks for making this available to the creative commons.

Is there a good alternative to using the light gray barrels (#2489)? Those are very hard to find and very expensive when you do, e.g. they're going for up to $20 a piece on Bricklink.

You could flip the whole assembly to drkbley except the technic gear element, but that might make for some nice contrast anyway. Drkbley barrels should be cheap - I seem to have a, um, barrel full of them.

I used wheels (www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=55982) and the technic driving ring extension (www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32187) in my build.

While dark gray barrels are definitely plentiful, I like the look of the driving ring extensions. Thanks for the suggestions!

Oh yeah... that is a good solution. Nice.
