North Shore Trip - Fall 2012 - Former USCGC Sundew WLB 404
I was on my annual camping trip to the North Shore of Lake Superior with my friend Steve this past weekend when we ran across this: The former USCGC Sundew crusing along the shore near the mouth of the Lester River in Duluth, MN.
The Sundew is a retired 180 foot buoy tender/light ice breaker that was stationed in Duluth for over 20 years and was retired in 2006 I believe. Initially, the Coast Guard gave it to the city of Duluth, which operated it as a museum. After five years of losing money, they sold it to a private individual who now uses it as a pleasure craft. Pretty cool pleasure craft, huh?
