Stan Pike

This is my lovely bicycle. Hand-built by Stan Pike in 1976.

In one month's time I'll be using it to cycle from Land's End to John o' Groats with my 14-year-old son. Our journey will be over 1100 miles. To view our cycling blog, visit:

We're hoping to raise money and awareness for Action Duchenne. Action Duchenne is a national charity that aims to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a severe genetic muscle wasting disease. Due to progressive muscle deterioration, loss of movement occurs, eventually leading to paralysis. The average life expectancy for patients with DMD is around 25.

It's a charity that is close to our hearts – a family we know have two boys who have been diagnosed with Duchenne.

I really don't like asking, but if you'd like to sponsor us, here's a link you can follow:

I hope it goes well, James. Will there be a support car to save you having to carry all your stuff?

    Great cause, as well.

shuttermeister Thanks. Can't wait. Three weeks of cycling every day. Should be brilliant.
    bnzai9 Thanks.
Nigel Rumsey You're not wrong. Reynolds 531 SL too. Mmm...
    Die Spiele Thanks.
Phil Bebbington Thanks Phil. No support car, just us, our bikes and our Carradice saddlebags.
    azorch Thanks my cycling friend.

plasticfantastic Hardcore! well, if you intend passing close to Bath just let me know. I will bring you cake and tea and perhaps a rub down with the Sporting Life - if still available or perhaps the Green 'Un

Phil Bebbington The closest we get to you is Bristol. It's tempting to detour to Bath for a eucalyptus oil massage, but it's probably just too far.
  • Phil Bebbington 3y

I'll come to Bristol and buy you both tea and scones.

Phil Bebbington Sounds good. We'll be the sweaty ones with the bicycles. Where shall we meet? Under the clock?
