Andy Warhol: 1928-1987

Let's face it, Warhol hated his time in Pittsburgh. Born Andy Warhola in 1928, Warhol studied art at Carnegie Mellon. When he graduated, he left Pittsburgh for New York where he became one of the biggest artists of the 20th century. When he died in 1987, at age 58, his body was returned to Pittsburgh where he is buried at the feet of his parents. His grave is at St. John the Baptist Cemetary near Castle Shannon. The Andy Warhol Museum opened in Pittsburgh in 1994, and features a vast collection of his work. In my opinion, the fact that Warhol was from here, and that the museum is here is one of the factors of why Pittsburgh has a really creative and great art scene.
