C-17 Tail

The Commander of a unit is often honored by having his command displayed on the tail of an aircraft. This tail is marked for the Comander of the '58 AS', a subordinate unit of the 97 Air Mobility Wing, based at Altus AFB, OK. They train all incoming C-17 pilots on the finer aspects of this highly maneuverable aircraft. The pilots will have already received their multi engine training in the T-1A pipeline when they arrive to sit in the pilots seat of this monster!

The fin also has a non standard serial presentation of the Fiscal Year and the last 4, which in this case is the whole serial number. AETC presents their serials as ACC does; with a FY, as opposed to AMC which presents the last 5 of the serial on the fin, below the band.
