2009.010 . Productive Leisure
Spent most of the day working on the "50 Songs Project" that everybody in our family here is doing this year. Five of us in San Diego and (we think) a couple of others are compiling a list of their 50 favorite or most significant songs for Susan's birthday. For my list, I've picked songs that mean something, so I can write a little paragraph about each one in the CD liner notes.
Basically, I've been collecting lists and scribbled notes all over the place, so yesterday I figured it was about time to see if I knew how to manage making a CD from iTunes, since Susan's birthday is on Sunday (i.e., tomorrow). When I went to sleep last night around 4:45 am, I had a list of about 60 songs. This morning, it ballooned to 154, and I haven't even looked at the vinyl yet. Maybe that'll be another list, if we ever get a USB connection for our turntable. So, from my "Top 50" playlist in iTunes, I dropped songs into another list called "Real Top 50," and got it down to the right number, omitting many many favorite songs.
It turned out to be enough to fill three CDs, so I rearranged them a little so the starting and ending songs would be appropriate. The songs are roughly in chronological order, starting with birth to high school on CD-1, then college, graduate school, and pre-kids days on CD-2, with the more recent songs and a few randomly timeless songs on CD-3. I'm listening to it now as I start putting the youth basketball statistics onto my website. (It's a volunteer, community service thing.)
It's been a good day.
