President Iskander Mirza with his wife Naheed
Mirza was the first President of Pakistan under the 1956 constitution. He declared Martial Law on 7 October 1958 and was its first casualty 20 days later. On the night of 27 October the police guard at the President's House had been replaced by the Army personnel and 3 generals asked him to sign his resignation and prepare for leaving the country. One of them Sher Bahadur was very rude. Just before the couple was sent in exile to London, Ayub called Asghar Khan to tell him that he could meet Mirza who was at Karachi Airport. When Asghar Khan got there he was shocked to see the couple sitting with an Army captain sitting with his shoes pointed towards them. Asghar Khan got rid of the insolent captain but recounted the incident in his book 'Generals in Politics'
