It is my own opinion that the Hamilton Mounted Unit is one of the best policing ideas to come along, ever. These officers are tireless in their willingness to speak to anyone and everyone who has an interest. They will gladly explain their duties, or talk about the horses, or listen to community concerns anyone may have.
Best of all, they are incredibly diligent about making themselves approachable to the kids, and it shows in their faces. The young ones now openly look up in awe instead of trying to avoid a policeman. Well done boys!
You may at times come across the signature of horses having been there shortly before. These droppings are nothing more than grain, grass and hay mixed with a little water and will dry up and disappear almost within minutes. For you gardeners out there, if the horses come down your street, scoop up this fabulous fertilizer and put it by your favourite rose bush. You will be the envy of the neighbourhood.
