During a classified repair at Swindon works in September 1981 it was fitted with train air brakes and after twenty three years allocated to Liverpool area MPD’s it transferred to Stratford. By the mid 1990’s it was working at Parkestone Quay and by 1998 had migrated to Knottingley. Whilst languishing at Immingham in February 2004 08689 was stored. By February 2006 it was working at Westbury moving to Newport before being transferred in September 2007 to Dee Marsh. After EWS lost the shunting contract at Shotton and Dee Marsh it was moved to Toton and stored in December 2007. In May 2010 it was being stripped for spares and was sold to EMR, Kingsbury and broken up in August 2010. 08628 is a Derby built locomotive from 1959 and was withdrawn in August 1999. After spending the next six years dumped at Saltley it was sold for preservation in September 2005 and currently (March 2011) resides on a section of rail on the Blackrod Industrial Estate, Horwich.
