64/365 - Time marches on
Pennies are going to gradually go the way of the dodo bird. Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom have all eliminated their penny currency. Time marches on.
When I lived in Australia over a decade ago it was a novelty to not have pennies. The ladies certainly had lighter pocketbooks. (Sort of... Australia has a NASTY big 50 ¢ coin which could do some damage if the ladies swung that pocketbook!)
As I OCD'd in turning all the pennies "tails" up, I briefly pondered the journeys some of those pennies have taken - squashed on the rails, washed, digested, years in the waterways, languishing in fountains all around the world, wished away into wells. Oh the places pennies have been. The piece de resistance was the centennial penny that happened to turn out on top.
Credit for the idea goes to dibytes.
