That was my first impression when these 2 chairs appeared in my life.
It happened not long ago on the road to Srinagar, Kashmir high in the far north of India.
While I sat sipping my hot tea the message of the monster chairs began to become clear.
Simply put, this world is not the disposable society I hail from. It is also not wasteful with its scant resources. The chairs were indeed speaking to me and for a few minutes on a spring day in Kashmir I had become a student of the empty chair. The message is clear that to resist death by disposal and to wait patiently to support a weary traveler was indeed a noble purpose.
