Bonnet Carré Spillway

On the return trip from New Orleans we traveled along River Road to do some exploring. We sure had no idea this spillway was along the way and wow sure did hit it at the right time for some amazing light and shadows!

The Bonnet Carré Spillway is flood control operation in the Lower Mississippi Valley .It is located in St.Charles Parrish- about 12 miles (19 km) west of New Orleans- it allows floodwaters from the Mississippi River to flow into Lake Ponchartrain and thence into the Gulf of Mexico. The construction of the spillway was completed in 1931.

Nice on black and check out the details in original size!
