Which Ten Cards?

I’m in the process of putting together a collection of greetings cards and I need to narrow a selection down to about ten. You might think it a simple matter to narrow the selection down, but I can tell you it’s not. I’ve been training to keep them commercial, eye catching and as distinctive of famous locations as possible, but I’ve also been struggling with keeping to a square aspect ratio. (But sadly a good few of my favourite images haven’t made it in because they don’t fit one or other of these criteria). I’ve had the additional complications that many of my images have existing licences preventing them from being used as greetings cards...

Anyway, why you ask am I getting a collection of images together? Well over the Christmas period I I’ve given several (of my already published cards) as gift vouchers and I thought it would be cool to extend the range whilst offering some kind of discount for my workshops to the people that buy the cards. I also felt that it would act as a way of publicising my workshops and prints to a wider audience.

So, if you have a spare few minutes, I’d be very grateful if you would select your favourite ten, many thanks, Jason

    wonderful colors!

Funny how some of my faves don't necessarilly make the cut on account of the square crop or working together as a series. Anyway given it a go. Tried to get shots that were diverse yet complimentary. How come the wild garlic doesn't make the cut. It would deffinitely be in my top 10.

    Hi Jason,

I launched my first 20 cards the same way. Getting a broad range of responses from a dozen or more people will give you a good idea of what is popular but don't forget to poll non photographers who have a very different outlook on what a decent (commercial) image is compared to the likes of you or I. Good luck with the venture

I really like the composition and exposure of your forest scene Jason... but I'm not exactly sure where the purple tones in the water comes from?
  • Panorama Paul 4y

Not sure I can select my ten favourite images though... they're all a bit too small to see them properly... I wish I could see them printed out... I'll tell you what... if you send them all to me as postcards... I'll tell you which are my favourites!! LOL!!
  • Jason Theaker 4y

Ha yes Paul what’s your address again?
Not sure about the purple, I didn’t do anything with the colour apart from boosted the greens so it’s out of camera...anyway I don’t mind it (until now!). Anyway, if you click the link underneath, or in the Google questionnaire you can get a 3000x4000 image of the lot, which is big enough to see detail...
    Cheers for the insults, Jason

Richard Childs cheers Richard for offering me your experience, it means allot considering this is one of your things... anyway it’s a weird experience because there is no clear top ten. obviously I only have 25 responses at the moment but when I crunch the numbers I may or may not be more confused as I am now... oh by the way, I’m planning on going to a few shops with a print out of the image above to see what they say...who knows they may even say, 3, 12, 24, ..................

Steve Dubois Cheers Steve. Yes the square crop did indeed cull a number of my personal favourites, but that’s no real bad thing I suppose. Oh yes the garlic one is in the list at the bottom. Anyway cheers again.

Joe Wright Cheers Joe for offering your views, I will get my ‘editor’ to take a look later today (o:

Tricky decision Jason, I could pick 10 that I thought would sell well and 10 that I admire from a photography perspective. Hope it goes well, just out of curiosity who are you using to produce the cards?
