Mickey Close Up

One thing I found difficult in taking these underwater shots is actually getting down far enough to get a bottom level shot. Now I am a pretty good swimmer. I swim almost every day in the summer in our pool. I have no difficulty diving down to the bottom of the pool and staying down there for a good amount of time. Also being a science buff I totally understood the effects of salt water on buoyancy. Now being a larger guy I new that this would work to my disadvantage. But again I am a good swimmer not a problem right. Wow I did not realize that I would struggle so much. Salt water really makes you float. A LOT. Especially if you carry some extra area around the waist. It was great if you just wanted to float around and look at fish but I wanted to dive and get close to the bottom. It was tough. I was able to get down but had to work to stay down. Still I was able to shoot video and stills just had to think of it in a different way. Recommend using the fins. They help a lot.
