Faces in the Crowd # 90
Another face in the crowd. One more. This face, through eyes still bright and blue, saw war at its ugliest, saw Paris by night and liberated a concentration camp by the harsh light of day. Over lunch (provided by the "Red Cross") we talked of many things, good and evil. Soon - too soon - his son came to take him away - there are still demands upon men like him - and so away he went; away from my company, my curiosity and my life. But in that brief time spent, I glimpsed life and death and every shade of being in between. Another face in the crowd...
