Detail of a Clénet Series III Asha_img 0158

The hood louvres and fender of the Clénet shown here were photographed at the 2012 Port Macquarie Motor Mania car show, port Macquarie, New South Wales.

Between 1976 and 1986 a series of Clénet automobiles were produced in Santa Barbara County, California, by a company founded by French-born designer, Alain Clénet (pronounced clay-nay). The company would take the chassis and drive train of the latest model Lincoln Continental or Mercury Cougar and fit it with a body that reflected the design tradition of high end 1930’s classic automobiles. In 1986 the Series III Asher sold for $82,500 (compared to about $25,000 for a Continental)
