30.07.83 Ely 47537
With plenty of semaphore signals , 47537 "Sir Gwynedd - County of Gwynedd" hauls 1E87 11:20 Glasgow Central to Harwich Parkeston Quay. Seen here at Ely on 30 July 1983 on the final stage of its long journey.
The train was named the "European", running via Manchester and Sheffield to connect with the overnight ferry to Hoek van Holland. The 47 was booked to take over the working from Preston. Following electrification of the Great Eastern mainline, the service for a period was routed via the West Coast mainline and North London line through to Harwich.
