Moonrise Over San Francisco

    Newer Older

Just hanging out in the Marin Headlands waiting for the moon to rise over the TransAmerica Pyramid. I was hoping for a "kiss" but I'm still happy with the results.

Thanks for sharing! The colors are so beautiful! I got here from the lightening pic that is getting passed around. That one is amazing, too!

Everything about this is fantastic -- the moon, the color of the sky, the bridge and skyline the perfect placement of everything -- just phenomenal.

I use The Photographer's Epemeris. It's an app or for desktops. Tonight you'll have to be in The Marin Headlands. I don't have a spot yet. I'm headed out to scout soon.

      Phil,

You possibly already do this too, but I use TPE (to give me moon rise/set times and angles) in combination with Google Earth's "show elevation profile" along a path feature to identify candidate vantage points ahead of the event; this allows me to identify vantage points that have direct line-of-sight to the feature I want to get in shot with the moon.

In my case I have been trying to get shots of wind-turbines in the frame and shooting from a long way away; typically 15 miles.

Good luck with your shots tonight!

I wasn't aware of the path feature. I'll check that out when I get a chance. Wind turbines are on my list but there are none close by.

Thanks for the heads-up on TPE. I bought it for my iPad and my head is bursting with ways to use it.
