Vertical Point of the Arches #1

I took a backpack trip out to Point of the Arches in Olympic National Park this past weekend. The rock rows were not showing quite as dramatically as the last time I was out there, so my image didn't come together quite as I had imagined. Without as much to work with, I isolated these two rows and went for a vertical. The sunset didn't disappoint though! One of the most dramatic, quickly changing ones I've had the pleasure of experiencing in a long time.

It takes quite a bit to get out there, and the trip was fun, even if it wasn't quite what I remember. Also, I got to try out my new Black Diamond, single wall, all season tent. It's like sleeping in a bit Gortex rain coat. I've been looking for a tent that is quiet in the wind, and this might just be it. It pitches tight, and was silent in gusty winds the whole trip.

To get out there on this 10 mile RT hike, you need:

-permit to get into the park

-permit for back country camp

-permit for recreating on the Makah Indian Reservation

-cash for parking

-lot's of raingear and waterproof shoes-the trail was ankle deep mud much of the way, and there were some pretty swift moving rivers to cross on the beach.

Your honest comments and critiques are very welcome. Thanks for looking
