Carl Heinrich Bloch (Danish 1834-1890). In 1859 he received a travel grant from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts which enabled him to study Rembrandt and the works of the Old Italian Masters. His work from Rome resulted in a commission for 23 paintings of the life of Christ for the newly restored Frederiksborg Castle chapel which he worked on for nearly 14 years. He was subsequently commissioned to paint 8 altarpieces for Lutheran churches in Denmark and Sweden.
