After last night doing high speed flash at Leicester Photographers Club, I tried having a go at home using the equipment I have already got. After a few teething problems I got the hang of what I was doing, and the limitations of the equipment I was using.
I've figured out that only some of my speedlights can keep up with the 7fps that my camera can manage, and this caused me to get quite a few dark images to start off with.
I only had a limited amount of time before the sun came over where I was shooting, as I was outdoors with the water but in the shade.
I did have a go at bursting balloons without water, but I think they are just too fast and will need to look at sound triggers if I want to do anything. Also, it get's a bit difficult to try to focus, then burst the balloon and trigger your light/camera all on your own.
I ended up doing a bit of stroboscobic work after I got a bit annoyed with getting nothing from the balloons without water bursting, using my rubik's cube.
