James Rosenquist makes grovelling apology to Corydora, May 16 1980
My new favourite photo of my lovely wife! At the Castelli-Feigen-Corcoran Gallery, NYC - I will not disclose quite why the apology was so grovelling, it may impact the value of his work!!!
p.s. for those who remember her other brilliant story of this particular exhibition, this was the very day Andy Warhol came early to the private view, purely to take photos - Polaroids, natch - of the canapes when they were still in their giant catering metal trays. "Hi, have you come for the event?" she asked. "No, can I go in the back?" he asked right back - "Sure ..." and the Polaroids were taken. No entourage, just a deserted art gallery, the single most significant artist of the 20th century, my wife, a Polaroid Land camera, and a giant, griditized array of not-yet-laid-out-for-consumption nibbles.
And after he left she went back in to survey the canapes, and thought - 'Yes, that will make a great photo'.
