chicago style

this one is from tasty dog in oak park. for some reason they don't put sport peppers on their dogs there, which is a shame.

I love Chicago-style pizza but the hot dogs are a little too strange for me. All I need is kraut or chili. Vienna Beef is a good brand question about that.

my mom recently tried one and thought it was strange... i don't get that, it's no different than putting veggies on a burger. i think these are fantastic.

I believe you can get the peppers by request. I know I've had them on my tasty dog before.

I'm a huge fan of the Chicago style "hat dag." I've tried to make my own since they're not available where I live. The one here has cucumbers on it; I've never seen that on even a Chicago dog before.

that's interesting dave, i always thought cukes were standard.

your version looks delicious. you know, you can order sport peppers and that crazy green relish directly from vienna if you need them.

thanks for the heads up akagoldfish; i will deifnitely ask for them next time i am there... and take another picture ;)

Thanks for the link to vienna. Since taking the photo i linked, I've been using Tabasco peppers. Almost as good as serranos.

I definitely think Tasty Dog is a bottom rung when it comes to Chicago hot dogs. No sport peppers? No poppy seed bun? Round pickles? Cucumbers? That's no Chicago hot dog.

      (Great photo, though!)

least you could do is recommend something better, paul...

i was at superdawg not too long ago and i wasn't as happy with their dog as i was with this one. not as many veggies, i guess. but i am not from chicago, so maybe i don't understand. their maxwell street polish was awesome.

dave -- i hadn't realized those were serranos! that's cool.

      yeah baby -- that's a beaut.

      (I miss the demon dog.)

i prefere brazilian hot dog! heheh

    14. paul goyette 84 months ago | reply

i'd love to hear more about what's on the brazilian style dog... i guess you are probably talking about something like this?

    15. illinisarah 84 months ago | reply

Superdawg is good, but it's not "Chicago-style." My recommendation to you is Parky's on Harlem & Madison. Classic Chicago-style dog, and fresh-cut fries. They are the best. They have the ingredients I think are the "classic" ones: mustard, onion, tomato, relish, sport peppers, and a pickle spear. Yum.

this looks good (is there a veggie version? :))

    17. paul goyette 84 months ago | reply

@jackie -- not at tasty dog... but i expect you could find something somewhere in chicago.

@sarah -- thanks for the suggestion. i will give parky's a try sometime soon...

Paul: instead of a suggestion, I figured I'd just go away for 6 weeks and then think about it.

To be honest, I haven't found a good dog in the OP area. I usually hoof it to Hot Doug's when I want the real deal. (Parky's on Madison is all right, but I had a bad experience there last time.)
