1970s Northern Ireland
In the 1970s, political and social unrest was widespread across Northern Ireland. Happier times now, of course, but in those stormy days during what became known euphemistically as "The Troubles", things could be quite unpleasant and dangerous.

Throughout that period, I worked as a journalist there, for Thames Television's THIS WEEK current affairs programme - and despite the turmoil, I had some of the happiest times of my life there and met the most fantastic, friendly, hospitable and resilient people on both 'sides'. Here are a few of my surviving pictures from that period - most of them are lost (I was - and am - nothing more than an amateur photographer).

And today? Northern Ireland, or the North of Ireland, is utterly transformed - and more beautiful than ever. Go and see for yourself, and enjoy the craic!
