Pileated Woodpecker

While on the trail, we heard rather dramatic rustling, and walked around a corner to see this bird in the distance. We approached slowly, and the bird, having found a huge supply of insects on some windfall birches, sat and ate, looking up occasionally. We left it there - a cold and windy Sunday meant there was almost no one else on the trail to disturb the bird.
