Things to do in Cincinnati #30: Columbus Zoo
OK, so its not quite Cincinnati, but it's an easy drive of under two hours. I find gorillas quite difficult to shoot, but I loved this silverbacks engagement. He was really hamming for the camera. My favorite gorilla shot since the kiss www.flickr.com/photos/petefoley/2626319167/in/set-7215759.... We'd originally gone up to watch a Columbus Crew game, and to take in Latino Fest. However, the Crew game was cancelled at the last minute, so we switched to the excellent Columbus Zoo as we'd already booked a hotel. That leads me to a travel tip, never buy advanced tickets for the Columbus Crew if you are traveling up from Cinci or Kentucky, or anywhere else out of state. The games never sell out, good seats are always available on the day of the game, and if they cancel or postpone a game, the Crew are not very fan friendly, and will not refund tickets, while offering only very limited exchange options. The game this weekend was postponed for a very, very good reason, but we are still left with a couple of expensive tickets for a rescheduled midweek match in Columbus that we cannot use. So I've learnt to never buy Crew tickets in advance, and only pick them up at the game. Hopefully I can save one or two of you from learning the same lesson the hard way..
