      Is there anything keeping anyone with an allen wrench from removing the stem and defeating the purpose of the lock?

      Slash that. Reread the caption, in the steer tube, not the stem, totally awesome, duh.

      How loud is it when you're riding? Do you normally keep it in the position shown?

      The lock stores in the bag when not in use. It locks the steering, so riding with it in place would be pretty difficult. Here's a video that will make it more clear:
