Peregrine Falcons Aerial Ballet.

During breeding season adult Peregrine Falcons begin a magnificent type of behavior called "food exchanges" or "food transfers." They happen very, very fast, taking only 1 second to complete. In order to capture images like this you have to be in "sync" with their daily rhythms and behavior.

The tiercel (male) falcon flies past the eyrie (nest site) carrying prey or partial prey remains in his talons. He vocalizes, calling out to the female Falcon who is in the eyrie with her eyases (young). She flies out to meet the Tiercel. While inverted underneath him, she extends her legs, feet and talons upwards to grab the prey remains out of the tiercel's beak. This is image one of an eight. frame/seond sequence. I posted image two on May 22.
