365x4.66 riding out irene

Hurricane Irene is making a beeline for NYC, and our apartment is, thankfully, in a non-flooding zone. So we're hunkering down and staying put (we have to! Transit is completely shut down!). I have a new Cricket loom, a tiny loom that is a great intro to rigid heddle weaving, and I put it together, warped it with yarn, and was weaving a scarf within 3 hours of opening the box. Yay new craft!

Neat photo! I hope Irene doesn't hit too hard. We're going to get some of it in Nova Scotia.

Nice! I'm hoping to start knitting for the first time in months tomorrow. Storms are perfect crafting time if you're lucky.

that blonde girl Yeah I figured once it was started, I could easily do it by candlelight, whereas the cross stitch I'm doing would make me go BLIND by candlelight.

I am very tempted by the cricket loom. Can't wait to see what you make!

Great color. How long will it take to do an entire scarf, do you think?

Cool loom! Did you already know how to weave, or are you learning on the cricket? That's a tempting purchase, but I've never woven before.

Jess F It would be an exaggeration to say that I'd really woven before, but we had a unit in 6th grade where we wove belts on these little looms similar to the cricket. So it is *familiar* but I definitely have no real knowledge :) I've always wanted to, though, so I'm excited to play with it. I know there is more I can do, and more interesting things to make with it, but I do think the Cricket is pretty limiting. Advanced crafters will probably want to move on quickly, I think, but it's definitely a GREAT way to learn the terminology, etc. Of course, I'm still on my first project so maybe I'll find there's lots more to do!

    Looks cool.
How is everything over there? I'm trying to keep being informed by reading online newspapers and thinking about the people that I know to be in the path of Irene. Stay safe!
