Living in New Zealand, I knew I would experience some sort of earthquake... well I wasn't expecting THAT!

I woke up instantly and even if I never felt one before, I knew what it was. The whole house was shaking for what seemed ages. Then, aftershock after aftershock, it wouldn't stop.

After 3h sitting at the end of the bed, we finally decided it was a bit safer and start doing stuff (like trying to sleep!).

The damage were surprisingly barely noticeable around the house (apart from stuff on the floor). The neighbors around seemed mostly fine. And although what you see in the news looks terrible, there is actually not that much severe damage in general.

I went for a bike ride in town and there is quite some damage and few fires, mostly on commercial and sadly, historic buildings. Still, I heard about 1.000 people had to be displaced though.

Well, that was a strange day and more than 16h later, we still feel aftershocks now and then.
