Knock him out! Labor can do it (1951)
Notes: The Congress of Industrial Organizations and its constituent industrial unions were in the vanguard of the early civil rights struggle to fight racism and discrimination. The CIO’s Committee to Abolish Discrimination targeted unfair hiring and employment practices, advocated the elimination of differential wage rates for minorities and women, and promoted fair housing practices. The posters displayed reminded workers that organized labor’s struggle to achieve better living standards and dignity in the workplace were inextricably linked to the goals of the larger civil rights movement in America.
