Randall Kennedy lecture: Thurgood Marshall: Mr. Civil Rights
Professor Kennedy, a scholar of civil liberties and race relations law and an award-winning author, will examine U.S. Supreme Court Justice Marshall's career as the chief attorney for the NAACP between the late 1930s and the late 1950s. During the lecture Kennedy – who clerked for Justice Marshall - will examine two key questions: How did Marshall earn the title "Mr. Civil Rights" ? What are some positions that he took then that might give pause to admirers now?
