    is when you have an on-screen light source which is "explaining" where all that light's coming from. In this case, it's a bit exaggerated as that one little lamp wouldn't be able to put out that kind of light, but it'll look nice on film.

      Nicely framed here. This is another one of those things that difficult to un-notice once you realize it's common practice. Must... forget...

      Very cool to see the set from a few steps back! Nice explanation. Although I suppose lighting is one of the core elements one has to suspend disbelief on, otherwise there'd be no film noir.
