1939 Waikiki Beach Oahu Hawaii

Photos my Dad took sometime in 1939. Dad landed in the islands with the 19th Infantry Regiment, "The Rock of Chickamauga", Hawaiian Division US Army at Schofield Barracks Oahu. Dad joined the Army in 1938 with hopes of working on aircraft but was placed in the truck pool of an Infantry unit because he all ready knew how to drive and was a trained mechanic. After about six months of my Dad requesting a transfer, and his refusal to box competitively for the unit, he was moved to the 4th Reconnaissance Squadron of the 5th Bombardment Group at Hickam Field, where he would raise to the rank of Staff Sergeant and Crew Chief. He departed the islands in March 1941 to join the 41st Pursuit Squadron, 35th Pursuit Group in Michigan.

These images were scanned from small sample photos, each about the size of a postage stamp. I presume provided by the developer. The larger photos are MIA with family some where and I hope to scan and post soon. I also have several strips of negatives from this camera but I'm not sure of these particular photos. They're hard to view and I'm afraid of damaging them.
