Studying (1971)

It's too hot to study inside during the Georgia summer -- when the dorm rooms don't have air conditioning. It's much better to sit outside on cool marble steps in the shade of a open breezeway.

This photo was taken in July 1971 on the campus of Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. During the summer the entire campus was devoted to a 7-week program called the Governor's Honors Program (GHP) -- an enrichment program for advanced high school students.

And the book? It's a novel by William Faulkner.
