wal mart 4
Oct. 1, 2012: Thirteen people were arrested in front of the Wal-mart distribution center in Elwood, Ill. for blocking the street, effectively shutting down operations.
They were protesting with numerous faith and labor groups in support of Wal-mart warehouse workers who have been on strike since Sept. 15 against "management's illegal retaliation against workers attempting to present the company their concerns about wage theft, unsafe conditions and discrimination."
The Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System Mobile Field Force handled the arrests.
Elwood Police Chief Fred Hayes said the special force was there as a precaution- he also said this is the first time Elwood has seen any type of civil disobedience.
There was no violence from protesters or police.
