The new Chinatown in the San Gabriel Valley is developing an, um,
ersatz urbanism: the newest overgrown minimall on Valley Boulevard in
San Gabriel has three levels of shopping, dining, and offices, a fake
Italianate stair tower, two levels of underground parking, and a Hilton
hotel hidden on the side. All of this backs up to a single-family
residential alley and yes, there are street facing shops at the edges
of the U arrangement.
