1969 08 International Festival of Youth Orchestras
The International Festival of Youth Orchestras was started in 1969 by Lionel and Joy Bryer together with Blyth Major. The event took place from 18th to 30th August, 1969 in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
The Midland Youth Orchestra from the U.K. took part in this inaugral gathering. The MYO was founded in 1956 by its conductor Blyth Major. The MYO associate conductor was James Langley. The MYO was incorporated into the CBSO Youth Orchestra in 2004.
The final concert of the Festival was given by the International Festival Youth Orchestra.The orchestra was made up of players drawn from each of the participating orchestras.
