View from Barrow
Although only a modest fell at 1494ft, it does have really rather lovely views over the Newlands Valley, Catbells, Derwent Water, Skiddaw and Keswick.
We had lunch on the summit in unusually windless conditions, accentuating the most intoxicating smell of heather. To simulate this, stick your nose in a honey jar. Then tape the jar in situ as you eat a sandwich.
We legged it back to Braithwaite as there was rain moving South off Skiddaw. A 30 minute jogged descent with whooping children was fun but left the grown ups aching and hobbling for days afterwards.
