Aedes Christi

Around 1500, William Orchard spanned the choir of St Frideswide's Priory in Oxford with this inventive masterpiece of Gothic stone vaulting. Lantern-like pendants hang from the fan shaped tracery in the lierne-vaulted ceiling. The east wall, with its rose window was inserted in the 1870s under the direction of Sir George Gilbert Scott. The priory is now known as Christ Church Cathedral.
