Ave Verum Corpus

"Hail, true Body, truly born

Of the Virgin Mary mild

Truly offered, wracked and torn,

On the Cross for all defiled,

From Whose love pierced, sacred side

Flowed Thy true Blood's saving tide:

Be a foretaste sweet to me

In my death's great agony.

O Iesu dulcis!

O Iesu pie!

O Iesu Fili Mariae. Amen."

– Pope Innocent VI.

The feast of Corpus Christi is traditionally celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday which this year falls on 31 May, which is the feast of the Visitation.

Just as St John the Baptist leapt with joy in his mother's womb when the Saviour drew near in the womb of Mary, so we leap with joy in the presence of Our Eucharistic Lord.
