WYPTE Thornbury Works

    Newer Older

The old Thornbury works was demolished in July 2012. The building had been in use by other companies since it was vacated by the PTE in 1984.

It was constructed in 1915 so lasted for 97 years before being flattened.

This photo isn't the best but gives some representation of it in PTE days.

Err Paul, what happens to a building when it is constricted? Didn't think there was a snake big enough to wrap itself round Thornbury Works!!!
The way I read it on other sites it was the bus depot that had gone and the works were intact, or is that now not the case?

You may well be right. I assumed the works and the depot were the same place - didn't realise they were two separate buildings!

Although i did go to an open day there in 1982 I think, and indeed pick up one or two buses for Halifax, I never studied the interior layout as such, it was the comments that made me think they were 2 different buildings, and it was just one of them that had been demolished.

I remember when I was an area relief booking clerk for B.R. in the mid 80s, the saver strip machines were serviced by a travelling mechanic from Thornbury
